for a presentation with Q&A and open discussion on,
"A Python Experiment: Identification of High Voltage Transmission Line Asset Renewal Initiatives Using Structure-Based Information"
with
Mike White
, Local Relations Representative & Data Scientist, and
Justin Nettesheim
, Sr. Asset Manager, at American Transmission Company.
Session Description:
Analysts review several factors when determining if line maintenance or rebuilds are required. Many of these factors examine the status of a particular line as a whole, rather than based on variables specific to individual transmission structures (poles).
Based on more robust data collection and powerful new modeling tools, this project attempted to use machine learning and deep learning methods to automate the process of predicting the need for a transmission line rebuild based largely on information at the structure level.
The session will include information on how Mike used information at the structure and line level to train models based on a binary classification problem of determining necessity for a t-line rebuild. The presentation will describe the problem, methods used, results and conclusions, as well as next steps. All analysis was performed using python, so Mike will provide a high-level overview of the methods and techniques (not to include a deep dive into the code, scripting or python). Please bring your questions, as this session will include Q&A and open discussion.
