Session Description: As electric vehicle (EV) adoption continues to accelerate – the US achieved a 7.2% all-electric sales share in Q2 2023 – utilities and planners are shifting their focus from understanding simply when and how many EVs will be adopted to also forecasting where they will be adopted. To successfully forecast future EV adoption through a locational lens, it’s critical to develop a deep understanding of customer behavior, preferences, and responsiveness to peer influences. Furthermore, the resulting forecast insights can inform utility charger siting strategy and support targeted customer education and marketing, thus initiating a virtuous cycle of strategically supporting customers’ electrification journeys based on where customers are today and what they want to see in future EV programs.
This community discussion will highlight the presenter’s approach to EV adoption forecasting, showcase key use cases for the resulting insights, and discuss how customer perspectives contribute to the process. Attendees will participate in a lively conversation to discuss the topic and examine how locational EV adoption forecasting can be used to solve their needs.
